On August 23, Team 1771 will have it's first meeting of the 2022-23 Robotics season. We are super excited to begin a new season and to welcome new members! If you are interested in attending, please come to room 307 at North Gwinnett High School between 2:30 and 4PM. We will also be meeting every Tuesday and Thursday (except when circumstances prevent it), so feel free to show up to any meeting and get involved. We'd love to see you! We are going to begin preparations for our first competition, GRITS, which is on October 22nd and 23rd, as well as teach skills like soldering, programming, and CAD to be ready for the season kickoff on January 7th.
Team 1771 would like to thank all of our amazing sponsors for their help this season. Thanks to them, our team has been able to perform better than ever before, winning both District Qualifiers and the District State Championship. Now, Team 1771 is going to the World Championship in Houston, Texas for the first time since 2019! In addition, the team is rated top in the world, with a #1 ranking for autonomous, #2 for the cargo ranking point, and #5 for overall offense. We look forward to making a name for ourselves in Houston. Once again, thank you to our sponsors!Congratulations to Team 1771's new officer board for 2018-2019!
Our Head Machinist going into the new year is Iti Shah! Iti is a brilliant machinist, a strong leader, and an effective communicator, and we are so excited to have her on the officer board for the coming year! Our new Programming Head is Justin DeSimpliciis! Justin's experience in programming both for robotics and outside of school mean he is the right person for this position. We’re so excited to see him storm the stronghold with our club! Congratulations to our new 3D Design Head, Jack Langan! Jack stood out as an applicant because of his ability to communicate and his previous experience. They will be an excellent Head of 3D Design because of his mad CAD skillz. Don't forget to consider the coconuts, Jack! Our new Build Captain is Bella Beeco! Bella's ability to inspire others to learn and work together make her qualified to manage our team. Beyond being an excellent engineer, she also has exceptional interpersonal skills, which make her right for this position. Great job, Bella! Congratulations to our new Chief Engineer, Steven Chappell! Steven stood out as an applicant because of his technical skills and his extensive knowledge of different subsystems on the robot. In his new position, he will excel at making sure our team has the materials and parts to succeed. Well done Steven! And finally, congratulations to our new President, Katie Park. Katie's experience in finances and team management will make her able to effectively oversee different parts of our team. She has been an important part of our club functioning for a while now, and we are so excited to see what things she has to attend to as President! We thank everyone who applied. Our applicants this year were an extremely qualified group of individuals, who make Team 1771 the great community it is. We're looking forward to another fun and challenging year with you! https://drive.google.com/file/d/1qSb00pXIjhqiPMLbUUuU6ik5jYyoQOMc/view?usp=sharing All new officers should fill out and turn in to Ms. Christman this document by May 17th: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1VXJEoUn7JYxqIJ5Aeuu0OVyEry3Z_aCa/view?usp=sharing We've had a great FRC season this year, but as the school year comes to a close there are a few things we need to do to prepare for next year!
1. Choose new officers. There are three officer positions open for next year due to seniors graduating! If you are interested in being team president, head of 3D design, or head of engineering, turn in the following application to an officer or Ms. Christman by Thursday April 26th, 2018. There will be relaxed interviews for all interested applicants. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1W5EPKa-Xl5We_2Y6SJIzvsvkBU_mH0u9-l3EFlEhZzo/edit?usp=sharing 2. Clean up Robotics room. It's not very glamorous but it's important :) 3. Celebrate a great school year! We'll be sending out information soon about an end of the year party. Have a great exam season everyone!
One of the most exciting features on our robot this year was the winglike structures on each side of the chassis, designed to be able to lift two other robots during a climb. All through build season, we planned our robot to be structurally strong enough to lift around 400 lbs, but we ended up not having time to implement them. When we had a chance to, we worked on them at competitions, and although we never used them on the field during the competition, at the Championship we tried using them on the practice field and were able to climb with two other robots! It was exciting to see that our robot could do the engineering challenge it was designed around. Preinstalled Splinters has been a great robot, and we are looking forward to improving it in the coming year! Hopefully our three-robot climb will be competitive at GRITS 2018. Community CAD WorkshopOn Sunday, April 15th from 3 PM to 8 PM, our team is hosting a CAD Learning day. If you've ever wanted to learn the basics of 3D modeling, or have a more specific question, stop by North Gwinnett High School, Room 308 to learn with us!
Date: April 15th, 3-8 PM Who: 4th graders and older! Members of FIRST teams and parents are especially invited. Location: North Gwinnett High School (20 Level Creek Rd. Suwanee), Room 308
We changed the hotel we are staying in to a slightly more expensive choice, changing the price for Dalton to $110/student. Make checks out to "NGHS Robotics", and make sure your student's name is attached to the check in some way.
We now have enough carpool and chaperone volunteers; thank you to everyone who is helping out! Parents are still welcome to visit the competition during the day as spectators.
