1. Trunk or Treat: Bring in bags of candy to Ms. Christman's room 622, and volunteer to help pass it out to kids at NGHS on Wednesday, October 25 around 5:30.
2. Interested in mentoring an FLL team? Robo Elite has recently contacted us asking if any of us with FLL experience could help them. They are located inside Youth Technology Learning Center, and normally meet on Saturdays from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. and Mondays from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m. This Saturday, October 21, they are meeting potential mentors from 11:00 to 2:00 p.m. and will provide lunch. Let us know if you are interested! GRITS (Georgia Robotics Invitational Tournament and Showcase) is at Riverside Military Academy on October 28th and 29th this year. We will be there from 8:00-6:00 on both days. What is GRITS? GRITS is an off-season event where FIRST teams in Georgia compete with FRC robots from the year before. It's more laid back than normal FRC, and we spend less time preparing for it, but it's a lot of fun and especially good for new members who want to get an idea what robotics competitions feel like. The idea is that teams have a chance to implement fun or creative ideas on a robot which they might not have had the time or resources to do during the actual competition the season before. More information: https://gafirst.org/blog/2017/10/02/grits-event-details-updated/ We are looking for adults willing to drive us there and/or back, 2-3 of whom we would like to help supervise our team the whole day. Please ask your parents to consider volunteering! If you plan to attend the event, make sure you do these things: 1. Pay your club dues on My Payments Plus. 2. Bring in $15 (will cover lunch on both days). This can be cash or check to NGHS Robotics Club. 3. Fill out the two forms below. If there are any issues concerning the payments, please feel free to contact us. We want everyone who wants to come to be able to attend! EDIT 10/18/17: The FRC Consent and Release Form now goes to the correct form for GRITS.
Congratulations to our two new officers, Marketing Head Katie Park and Assistant Outreach Officer Hyelyn Kang! Both of you have done a lot for our team in the past, and I'm so excited to get to work more closely with you in the future.
As announced at the meeting today, our Head of Marketing, Alex, has decided not to continue in his position for the coming season. He will continue to be a valuable member of our team, and we wish him success in his pursuits! This does mean we are looking for robotics members who want to help lead our marketing team. As stated in our club charter: "The Head Accountant will oversee the marketing department. He/she will make and maintain good relationships with sponsors, do general fundraising, apply for new sponsorships, arrange community outreach, and oversee team publicity." Interested students should fill out the application we handed out today, or if you were unable to attend the meeting, download the application below. Applications are due on or before Friday September 29th, 2017; turn them in to Ms. Christman or any officer.
Anyone who is applying to be an officer is encouraged to read our entire club charter, available under the "ABOUT" tab on this website. Our first meeting of the year went well, and we are looking forward to the year ahead of us! If you missed our first meeting, don't worry; just come to our next one. We will continue to meet every Wednesday at 2:30 in room 308. If you want to get regular text updates about our club, please text @nrobo to 81010.
Additionally, we were recently contacted by a STEM program for elementary students which is planning to start an FLL team this year. If you are an experienced robotics member and are looking to mentor them, contact us for more information. This is a great opportunity to build your resume, promote STEM education and get service hours all at once! Tomorrow will be our first robotics meeting of the year! We are in room 308 from 2:30 until 4:00.
Hope to see everyone there! EDIT: This is now closed to new volunteers. Feel free to stop by and enjoy the presentation! Thank you to all who will be helping out. Saturday, July 15th we will be doing a presentation of our robot at American Redemption (300 Peachtree Industrial Blvd, Suwanee), a local business at the intersection of Suwanee Dam Road and Peachtree Industrial Boulevard. We need more NGHS Robotics volunteers from 10 AM to 3:30 PM, so RSVP below by Friday, July 7th if you can come. This form is now closed to new submissions.
This year, we have several changes in how our club is run. Notably, we are excited to begin working with Ms. Christman, who will be our new teacher sponsor! Also, our dues will be $135 this year, payable through MyPaymentsPlus. We had discussed raising them all the way to $200, but after our team talked about it more, we decided that was too much.
Soon, we will be publishing our club charter, which explains how we make club decisions and how responsibility is divided amongst our officers. Stay tuned to this website! We will post information here about when our first few meetings will be. |
